Script Draft: Project 3

BURGUNDI TACKITT (HOST):

TACKITT: If there is one thing any incoming female freshman at Arizona State University would need to be informed about to help her get involved the most, it would most definitely have to be joining a sorority, one chapter in particular; Alpha Phi!

Alpha Phi like all other sororities and fraternities is a social organization of females dedicated to principles like community service and leadership skills. Just at ASU alone we have more than 3000 undergraduate students in more than 50 chapters. Not only does the ASU Greek community support student success, this community helps develop lifelong friendships with people that you would have never thought it was possible to get along with!

Holly Nunns, a new member this year in Alpha Phi

NUNNS: I am so happy I joined Alpha Phi and I’ve made so many friends which makes it 10 times better!!

Greek life is a great way to get involved with the University, but also an amazing way of doing service for your community in fun and creative ways! The more you get involved and obtain leadership roles, the more your life is consumed by this organization. You get back what you put into it and as long as you are willing to participate and attend events, you are guaranteed to love and enjoy the experience. Being apart of something bigger than yourself truly is a unique experience and joining a sorority or fraternity gives you the opportunity to be different and help make changes that YOU want to see.

Without Greek life, I feel as if our university and community would be a dull and boring place. Greek like brings life to our campus and also helps influence people to get involved and help our community however they can. If it weren’t for all the chapters and all they money each one raises for their specific cause, many charities wouldn’t have as much support. Our charitable events make big amounts of money, all donated to good causes.

Sydney Stockton, a new member this year in Alpha Phi briefly explains one of Alpha Phi’s philanthropies and its impact on the community.

STOCKTON: One of Alpha Phis biggest charitable event of the year is its Philanthropy; Red Dress Gala.

TACKITT: Every chapter has it’s own particular cause they focus on raising money for, where as Alpha Phi’s focus is Heart Health in woman and children.

STOCKTON: At the philanthropy all the girls wear a red dress representing heart health, in order to get in you and your family must buy a ticket, which is all donated to our cause, and at our event there is a silent auction consisting of premade baskets and a brand new car! I think altogether we raised 40,000 dollars total this year, which was amazing. It always feels good to give back!

TACKITT: As you can see sororities and fraternities aren’t just about the parties, socials and events, but instead they were founded to make a difference in the community and to ASU. In order to make a difference in the world you have to be the change you want to see, and the only way to make a change is to get involved.

Personally I believe that every one should want to get involved and make a difference in the world we live in, and joining a sorority would be a great step in the right direction.

Alpha Phi really has changed my life in countless ways. It has allowed me to see the campus in a whole new perspective and given me the chance to form so many friendships with all of the girls whom I would have never met if it weren’t for me joining. Being apart of something so precious as a sisterhood is a memory that I will forever hold in my heart. Alpha Phi, or any sorority or fraternity for that matter, truly is an amazing way to give back and it only makes it that much more fun doing it with people you love!
