ASU Reacts: Legalization

Burgundi Tackitt: HOST

Hi this is Burgundi Tackitt here, and this is your NPR news

TACKITT: For the first time in history, states Colorado and Washington voted to legalize Marijuana for recreational use since the 2012 election on November 6th.  Although there will be some rules and regulations included with this new law, such as only those 21 or older will be able to buy and keep small amounts of this substance for personal use, supporters of this drug feel that this is a small step in the right direction of taking apart Prohibition one state at a time.

Here is Matthew Campobaso, a student here at ASU, speaking for many groups of students here at the University about how they feel with this new law and what it may eventually lead to

MATTHEW CAMPOBASO: I feel that this new law is great and that it will lead to other states rendering marijuana legal for recreational use.

(APPLAUSE)

TACKITT: Although this new law may not physically affect us here at ASU, supporters and students feel that this will lead to other states following in these footsteps and eventually legalizing this substance elsewhere. Supporters feel that this tax revenue that they say will be produced from the purchasing of this drug will be good for society and hopefully help the economy. I guess were just going to have to wait and see how this new law sets in in these states and hopefully make a proper judgment then as to how other states will deal with this issue and come across an agreement as well.
